The Conundrum of Pain

An exposure to myriad emotions make us emphatic in our expressions. Emotions guides the heart and intelligence guides the brain. How often have we mixed these two things? I am guilty of letting the emotions take reign of my head and calculating my love to the ones who deserved an infinity. If you believe you have never been victim to such a chaos, I urge you to stop reading now. I urge you rather to go and be a part of this vital misery, for then you shall feel the conundrum of pain. There are darkness that scares you, the horrific ones. A child's cold body on his mother's lap. An octogenarian lighting the pyre of his only daughter. The slip of the wheel of a speeding husband and a new father. The darkness of death, creates a void. The darkness of neglect creates gloom, the darkness of hate creates fury, the darkness of love creates poets. It's a matter of mystery I believe, the pain I face in the darkness makes me numb yet I feel the tangential pull in every...

Ethereal Empathy

Birth in the age of super computers and robots make us the most technologically advanced generation that the world has witnessed. Comfort is literally at the click of a switch away. In the sense of communicating ideas we have never been so close. Today surgeries are carried out with patients and doctors on two different continents. The amount of data transfer per nanosecond worldwide is astounding. The rate at which the world is progressing is in fact humongous. I have my degree in the field of mechanical engineering and though I never was the star student, I know for a fact the analysis we carry out today is indeed a dream come true for the yesteryear generation. This brings me to the thought of legacy. There are people who love to live in the nooks of oblivion. The ones who claim legacy and heritage are but a foolish man’s vocabulary. Whatever is the use of crores of rupees in the bank after your death? You wouldn’t be there to reap its benefits nor can you be certain that your h...

The myth of originality

It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation they say. You were born original, don't die a copy. How original can original be? Originality is often misunderstood, I was struck by this epiphany a few days back. When a child is creatively sprouting we inhibit his growth. To colour outside the lines is forbidden. I actually think the child is capable of creating masterpieces if he is just left by himself. Of course I do not think all his pages should have crayons scribbled over them and you should pretentiously call all of them work of art. But maybe once in a while the rules should be laid down. This brings the child’s original perspectives into view. My ‘liberal’ family has asked our children to be original in their career choices. So when my cousin took the liberty of saying he wanted to become a graphic designer, he was told he misunderstood what originality meant. His choice of taking up an original Or maybe they had very different stance on the ...
